Artist statement
Tamara Rain Bell was born an artist. Gifted with a natural creative talent, her disruptive creations are born organically from her imagination. "The purpose of art is to see the possibilities of a different world. Maybe where indigenous people are the future of mankind", says Bell. Her imaginative approach includes placing shoes on the south side of the Vancouver Art Gallery to honour the tragic discovery of the 215 native children's bodies found at the Kamloops Residential School or replacing John A MacDonald's face with indigenous women demonstrates a divergent view of indigenous art. Ms. Bell spearheaded the ‘Every Child Matters’ mural on Commercial Drive in Vancouver and ask the public to join her to honour Residential school survivors by placing orange ribbons in a park. Ms. Bell is a proud sundancer and member of the Haida Nation, Raven clan. Ms. Bell's overflowing creativity has contributed to her 25 years in film and television. As an award-winning director, producer and scriptwriter, Tamara uses her passion for all things creative as a way to connect to the collective.
