Artist statement

Patterns in the "Long Shadow Series" distort as I carve curves on them. It’s not unlike an object on the rotating Earth casting a shadow, getting longer in the afternoon sun. It is the flux of a rotating body moving through a field of energy. It’s literally everywhere in the natural world, but often overlooked. The geometry of it can be mind-scrambling. I love the surprises these pieces generate. I never know exactly what they're going to do. There is a massive measure of trusting the process in each one.
