Artist statement

The artworks submitted are a metaphor for my personal background and experience as an immigrant artist. I believe that every immigrant coming to this country has to pull together varied influences to create an identity that can occupy the personal space needed to grow and be in balance. These works were created over the past 2 years, and each series of works that evolved comes from thinking about this condition. They pull together strands of influence from my cultural heritage, the current social and political environment, and personal preoccupations. Each series shifted and reflected diverse sources and psychic states. They are my reading of the current zeitgeist as various forces push and pull in contrary directions.
