Artist statement

Umapathy is inspired by the emotions and people he’s met on his social ascent from a humble background to prosperity. Having honed his innate artistic skills at the College of Fine Arts, he works with acrylics to express intangible relationships. Abstract ideas formed in black & white are translated into reality amongst an array of colour. The result is his signature style - a unique colourful mesh with black & white elements. He captures people’s internal emotions and external responses in a way that’s intimate and universal at the same time. Umapathy’s experience in advertising and interiors, both using design as a core, give him a sense of space and visual aesthetics that come through in his vivid paintings.
