Lives and works in Porto, Portugal

Artist statement

My artistic practice revolves around the politics of the body, and attempts to challenge its hierarchies, functions, roles, as well as its relation to other (material) bodies. Often this assignment leads me to invert, transfer, transform or even disqualify these bodily qualities or features. Seeking to stage these processes of transfiguration, declassification and transference between organic and inorganic, geological and biological bodies, in my practice materials become decisive in defining the expression that the works take on. My work is revealed mainly through sculpture, drawing and performance, taking advantage of the breadth and permeability that these disciplines offer. In a process in which the body asserts itself as an almost always indispensable agent, performance emerges as a means of production, composition or even staging, promoting and equating the participation of the body as a generative methodology and axis for conceptual formulations. From large scale sculptures, to transitory installations, in sculpture as in drawing, the acting body imprints its gestures and transits.
