Artist statement
I have adapted the modern technique of substrate (Nuno) wet felting to create a canvas of wool and silk . I’m endeavoring to create a unique expression that bridges the chasm between brush and fiber. As a Hispanic woman, my artistic intention is decidedly intersectional. I am guided by bright colors of the traditional textiles of Latin America reinterpreted through the lens of my classical art and design education. My art form is empowering a gender revolution as women form an uninterrupted supply chain of the fibers I employ. I embrace and promote an environmental art rebellion against solvents and toxic materials. I love the perceptional challenge that my canvases pose to the audience, forcing the viewer to decipher the riddle and understand the magic of my canvases. I’m constantly alternating between art and artifact, between the utilitarian and the decorative. It is after all, in the most ancient of craft expressions that we find the first artistic expressions.
