Artist statement

Storytelling remains at the heart of my practice. For more than thirty years, I worked as a journalist, seeking out vivid, human details that bring narratives to life. Over time, I also began gathering natural materials—seeds, shells, leaves, vines, driftwood, stones, and flowers—drawn to their texture, shape, and symbolism. Now, in my second career as an artist, these elements have become both my medium and my subject. My work spans collage, sculpture, and painting, grounded in the sensory richness of the tropics. I explore themes of vanity, impermanence, pain, intuition, beauty, and faith—ideas that feel both personal and universal. Nature is not just a reference or inspiration; it is embedded in the work itself. Through these materials, I continue to investigate the passage of time, transformation, and the layered narratives held within the organic world. I have seen that many viewers are drawn to the natural pieces just as I am. I give permission for them to touch the works and find joy in watching them interact in an intimate way. My mission is to merge with nature and to help others to do the same.
