Vincent Marcq
Lives and works in Paris, France
Artist statement
In his works, Vincent Marcq addresses the close relationship between art and architecture through projects that question our way of « living ». His photographies tend to unravel with humour what makes « living today », in order to rethink our spaces and imagine through art a a different way of living. Series BROKEN HOUSES According to Jean Baudrillard, urban civilisation is seeing a succession, at an accelerated pace, of generations of products, devices, gadgets, against which mankind seems a particularly stable species. Inspired by this reflection, Vincent Marcq focuses his attention on these objects that we no longer dare to throw away and more precisely that we store in a very place dedicated to this matter: the garage. He thus defines the garage as a timeless « museum » where an aesthetic disorder reigns. These places, which have become spaces of storage, transition, wait, deliver an archéologie of the contemporary, where the decline of consumer society is beginning to fill and clutter up the space.
