Lives and works in Boston, MA

Artist statement

My practice draws on a sustained inquiry into how technologies of instrument-making, sonification, defense systems, and military apparatuses shape our perception within socio-cultural and political contexts. From this inquiry, my work emerges as a way of registering, in Deleuze’s words, “the imperceptible forces that populate the world, affect us, and make us become.” I aim to disinter long-buried conflicts and translate them into a shared bodily encounters where invisible tensions register through visceral perception. What seems familiar trembles into strangeness, reminding us that acts of seeing and feeling are already political and conditioned by systems that structure how the world is known. Given my life abroad as a Korean, removed from yet attuned to the sociopolitical tensions of home, sound and image became means of reckoning with distance. Seeing how division reverberates far beyond Korea’s borders compelled my practice toward a political terrain. These experiences triggered me to hybridize art and technology as platforms for testing how conflict, sociality, and the world’s power dynamics travel through perception felt in bodies and across spaces.
