Artist statement
I create art under pseudonym W. B. Randall, I am a trans woman originally from North Carolina however have resided in the United Kingdom for most of my life. My art takes inspiration from many aspects from nature to Gothic elements. One day I can be painting a peaceful mountain scene and the next day will be a piece reflecting on humanity and the darkness that comes with our society. Representing the LGBTQIA+ community, especially the trans community, is of extreme importance to me. I use my art to communicate how my mental state is and what I am feeling in that moment, as such my work frequently shifts and changes whilst staying true to my style. This can be seen from my clean and precise land and cityscapes to my abstract and Gothic pieces in acrylic. The use of texture is also important to me as it can communicate such emotional messages whether it be brush strokes or additional materials added to the paint. At the end of the day, I use my art to hopefully encourage better inclusion of trans people into both the arts and into society itself.
