Lives and works in Busan, South Korea

Artist statement

My work begins with actual plants. I press and dry them by hand, then apply color and arrange them according to the composition of each work. Through this process, plants are transformed from transient living matter into a material that holds traces of time and memory. I am particularly drawn to the lines found in stems, branches, leaves, and roots. These organic lines are not simply representations of nature. As I repeatedly observe, select, color, and arrange them, the act of looking gradually becomes an act of contemplation. This movement—from line to Zen—has become central to my practice. Pressing and drying inevitably alter the plants. Their color fades, their moisture disappears, and their physical state changes. Rather than attempting to restore what has been lost, I work with these transformations as evidence of time. Hand-coloring introduces another layer of memory and perception, while vacuum-sealed framing preserves the completed arrangement in a suspended state. Through this process, I explore the relationship between nature and human memory, disappearance and preservation, the visible and the inner world. My works are not botanical specimens or representations of plants. I use plant matter as a medium through which time can be held, memory can be reconstructed, and looking can open into a quiet space of contemplation.
