Lives and works in Wrocław, Poland

Artist statement

Zofia Pałucha, born in 1993 in Częstochowa and holding a PhD in Fine Arts (2024), lives and works in Wrocław. Her artistic practice is deeply rooted in the exploration of the digital realm, where she navigates the complexities of personal and political realities. Through her work, Pałucha examines the transient nature of images and experiences in contemporary society, drawing from the fragmented and often incidental visuals of the internet. Using her smartphone as a primary tool, she manipulates amateur photographs, accidental captures, and cinematic stills, transforming these overlooked visuals into layered, recontextualized compositions. This process enables Pałucha to critically engage with the commodification of human experiences and the ephemerality of media in the digital age. Her work serves as a meditation on the tension between the public and the personal, the fleeting and the permanent, and how these dichotomies are influenced by virtual environments. Pałucha’s practice also delves into themes of intimacy, sensuality, and the body, exposing how larger socio-political structures permeate even the most private aspects of our lives. Her evolving, multilayered images reflect the instability and complexity of the modern condition, offering a profound commentary on the fragility of individual autonomy and the impact of global and digital forces. Recent exhibitions include solo shows at PACT Gallery in Paris (2023/2024), BWA Studio Gallery in Wrocław (2024), and...
