Lucia Leuci

b. 1977, Bisceglie, Italy. Lives and works in Milan, Italy.

“Lucia Leuci’s work is a playful tragicomedy of the mundane. If the practice of everyday life speaks to the way in which we devise systems and meaning out of the semiotics of our daily rituals, Leuci’s sculptures turn a mirror on this notion with tactile and subtle humour. There’s an intriguing beauty in her metal forms, found objects, and colourful resins, as well as iron and fabrics. Her constructions each feel familiar, but sit recontextualised to highlight sites of play and potential in our common experience.”

Bronte Stolz

b. 1991, Adelaide, Australia. Lives and works in Melbourne, Australia. 2019 BFA, Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne. 2012 Bachelor of Design (Product Innovation), UniSA, Adelaide.

“Bronte Stolz creates stark architectural forms that eliminate traces of the human, developing a sense that our bodies are now inextricably melded with industry. While many present-day sculptors produce anthropocenic plays on the body and our somatic presence, Stolz’s work seems to highlight the residual—the metal moulds, the grates, the foundations—only to leave the viewer feeling an uncanny sense of familiarity. Stolz’s forms highlight that we ourselves are made of no different stuff to the mineral waste of everyday life, but equally that this debris can readily continue without us.”

Yein Lee

b. 1988, Incheon, South Korea. Lives and works in Vienna, Austria. 2022 MFA, Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna.

“The noun ‘organism’ has its roots in a Greek term for implements and tools, while likewise relating to the word ‘organisation.’ At some point, the organic came to represent a constructed and anachronistic understanding of the ‘natural world.’ Such a concept is leaky and insufficient today, as more and more we are intertwined with material waste and digital landscapes. Yein Lee’s sculptures create bodies of the present, returning the notion of the organic to its essence as a means to identify systems. These works spotlight our entanglement with plastics and extracted metals, as well as a confused sense of consciousness.”
