Ivonne Thein

Born 1979 in Berlin, German. Lives and works in Berlin.

"Ivonne Thein delves into the human body with her photographs, videos, sculptural and mixed media installations. Her presentations of the body are those which too often fall through the cracks of social acceptance—pregnant women, hermaphrodites, androgynous people. The consternation her works often provoke reveals our narrow standard definition of beauty and the formal language we usually see for human bodies. This limited aesthetic in turn impairs and damages people’s self-perception."

Artwork Image: The Self and the Other, 2019. Mixed-media installation. 59 x 61 x 39 in.

Vivian Liddell

Born 1971 in Memphis, Tennessee. Lives and works in Athens, Georgia.

2002 MFA, Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York. 1993 BFA, University of Georgia, Athens.

"In her works Vivian Liddell colorfully merges prints, fabrics, embroidery and paintings into spatial installations creating unusual and diverse perspectives. The artist sees the world through a variety of lenses. She combines references from popular culture, art history and feminism. Liddell often humorously includes the occasionally occurring absurdities of daily life. With her painting of male nudes from a female perspective, she inverts the traditional canon, where male painters shaped the image of women in art history."

Richard-Jonathan Nelson

Born 1987 in Savannah, Georgia. Lives and works in San Francisco, California.

2017 MFA, California College of the Arts, San Francisco, California.

"In his chromatic, mixed media collages, Richard-Jonathan Nelson addresses black queer male identities. Eroticized bodies are embedded in natural elements and structures, traversing and partly fragmenting each other. Digital collage and layering techniques dynamically highlight natural processes such as growth, blossoming or withering. Nelson creates natural surroundings that point to all-encompassing natural circles that include and embrace all genders or identities disregarding any social norms."
