Siman Meng

Born 1995, Shenzen, China. Lives and works in Chicago, Illinois.

2018 BFA, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois.

"The work Siman Meng has shared on her Foundwork page is compelling—so compelling, in fact, it requires little text or background info to garner my interest. What Meng is up to in the works shown here is something worth keeping an eye on. Her photos and collages betray a sophisticated eye, a playfulness, and, most importantly, a coherent vision. I am very curious to see where she goes next with her work after her graduation from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago this year."

Sharon Levy

Born 1976, Atlanta, Georgia. Lives and works in Los Angeles, California.

2007 MFA, University of California, San Diego. 1999 BA, Bard College, Annendale-on-Hudson, New York.

"This work intrigues and excites me—Levy seems to flow effortlessly between 3-D sculptural installations and works on paper, and her desire to instill a childlike “sense of wonder” into her practice is certainly being fulfilled in the works of hers I saw on Foundwork. Her art—especially the 12 prints in the Blinds series—blends abstraction and figuration in a rigorous, yet poetic, way. It’s a potent combination, and I’m eager to see how she’s wielding it in her latest work."

Bill O'Donnell

Born 1952, Providence, Rhode Island. Lives and words in Bloomington, Illinois.

1987 MFA, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois. 1978 BA, The Union Institute.

"There are whispers of the work of other photographers, such as James Casebere or David Levinthal, in that of Bill O'Donnell, but those similarities are superficial. His photographs—particular those in the “Solid and Space” series—are very much their own thing. O’Donnell talks about the importance of mining the “quirky mind/body relationship between eyesight and memory” (a rich subject for any photographer), and this series, in particular, explores that rich territory in surprising and rewarding ways."
